NRDC’s post on the benefits of stainless steel and the impact of plastic production

This past week, on the National Resources Defense Councils’ Simple Steps – Advice for Going Green website, they outline both the good and bad of food storage containers. Stainless steel ranks at the very top. All plastic has an impact on the environmental and production of impacts of manufacturing plastic based containers.

I’m sure it goes with out saying where i stand on this issue. Tiffins have been around for 50+ years. They are functional, useful, reusable, and environmentally-friendly to manufacture. They design has stood the test of time and it’s time to go back to the original “green” solution.

—- Here’s a quick blurb from the report. —-

“…. knowing more about different types of containers (including the type of resin for plastic containers) can help you make better choices.”
A few suggestions you can follow to reduce plastics and toxic exposure in your home:
* Avoid single-use, disposable packaging
* Buy food in glass or metal containers
* Avoid heating food in plastic containers
* Bring your own containers to stores where you’ll be served in plastic
* Avoid plastic cutlery and dinnerware
* Use wood instead of plastic cutting boards
